As Seen on the BBC: The Grand Island Hotel with Banjo Beale

Bespoke sash and case windows for BBC designer Banjo Beale's island hotel restoration, delivered by van, two ferries, a small boat and a horse box.

Project Overview

About This Project

When BBC designer Banjo Beale set out to restore a crumbling island mansion into the Grand Island Hotel on the Isle of Ulva, he needed windows worthy of the building, and a company willing to get them there. He came to Edinburgh Windows and Doors.

We manufactured six bespoke sash and case windows in redwood and sapele hardwood, built to suit a restoration where every detail ends up on camera. Then came the interesting part: delivery. Six hours by van, two ferry crossings, a small boat over to the island, and a horse box for the final half mile of mud track to the front door.

Both company directors made the trip personally, spending two days on the island fitting every window and completing all the internal and external finishings themselves. When a project carries Banjo's name and the BBC's cameras, you do not send it with a courier.

The restoration features on the BBC in 2026, with the EWD team making a short appearance, and we will be back on the island as the project grows. If we will take sash and case windows over two ferries and up a sheep track by horse box, imagine what we can do for the project on your street.
