Some jobs you cannot talk about until they are finished. This is one of them. Ahead of the visit of the President of the United States, Edinburgh Windows and Doors was brought in to install, and later remove, ballistic glass at two of Scotland's most iconic locations: Trump Turnberry and MacLeod House.
Presidential security work allows no second chances. Every unit had to go in to exact specification, on a fixed deadline that could not move, under the scrutiny of a US security detail. It is the kind of brief where the tolerance for error is zero, and exactly the kind of brief this team was built for.
It was not our first presidential commission either. When President Joe Biden visited the Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club in 2021, our two Managing Directors, joined by one of their dads, lifted twelve ballistic units weighing 125kg each into place by themselves. Lessons were learned, chiropractors were consulted, and this time the full EWD team made the trip.
Very few window companies in the UK have handled presidential-grade security glazing. Fewer still have been asked back three times. Whether we are protecting a head of state or restoring a single sash window in Morningside, every pane gets the same standard of care. That is the point.
